HODIE

SUMMARY

Hodie is a native mobile app designed to foster personal and professional skill development for post-tertiary education.

As the lead UX/UI designer for this EdTech startup, I spearheaded the design system and created an immersive user experience tailored to the needs of modern learners. Hodie provides a comprehensive platform for users to access curated learning materials, track their progress, and engage in interactive learning experiences.

With a focus on coaching expertise, immersive design, and gamification, Hodie aims to empower users to achieve human skill development and maximize potential.

 

PROJECTS

I worked as a freelance designer for a year and contributed to the UX/UI design of Hodie, an Australian-based educational app developed as part of the Maxme method. Maxme, an intelligence skills development partner, is dedicated to empowering individuals with the essential skills required for success in the workplace. Through a combination of online learning, personalized coaching, and comprehensive support, Maxme enriches education to cultivate the critical competencies necessary for career advancement and professional growth. Hodie serves as a pivotal tool within the Maxme ecosystem, providing users with a seamless and engaging learning experience tailored to their unique skill development journey.

Powered by the Maxme method, Hodie is developed from 20 years of coaching and mentoring people.

 
 

PROBLEM

Traditional tertiary education primarily emphasizes hard skills, often overlooking crucial soft skills essential for career success. Hodie’s mission was to bridge this gap by empowering students and graduates to acquire vital human skills, including self-awareness, communication, mindfulness, team building, creativity, and ownership, ensuring they thrive in their professional journeys.

 

MY ROLE

  • Prototyped a native mobile app

  • Lent expertise in creative facilitation and working in cross-functional teams (i.e. development, brand management, user research, etc.)

  • Helped solidify brand identity

  • Constructed a design system that aligns with the company voice, tone and personality

  • Created comprehensive storyboards, animations, UI components, and specs

  • Built positive relationships among team members

  • Maintained smooth flow through effective communication, collaboration, and solid project management skills

  • Contributed to revisions and strategy to maintain focus on long-term goals

 

DESIGN EXCELLENCE

Our design team of 3 freelancers created a fun and rewarding product that balanced levity with crucial development. Driven by a passion for our craft and for the need to fill the skill gap, we were determined to create an outstanding educational service.

I established best practices and consistent patterns throughout the entire process, and ensured deliverables fit the scope of the project. Every time we reached milestones, we tested for performance issues and flow, then quickly re-adjusted to correct mistakes and improve quality.

LEADERSHIP

Because of the uncertainty of the current market landscape, we constantly adapted and transformed the Hodie app to steer it towards success. My team and I worked together each week to ensure the client’s vision achieved 3 main pillars:

My meetings with the client involved discussions around scaling the scope of business and figuring out how to actualize new features while improving what’s currently implemented. To optimize the process, I helped define and prioritize JIRA issues, and provide recommendations to influence the project strategy. I also conducted remote co-creation meetings with team members and usability tests with students to measure the success of my designs. As a result, we were given valuable insights and solutions that have greatly improved the strength of the entire company.

RESULTS

  • I prototyped 72 screens, imagery, multiple animations, and 1 design system consisting of visual guidelines and a component library

  • Qualitative and quantitative data were not gathered because the app was launched in Australia just before I left the team
